I have a 1967 chevy 350, and seems to have fuel delivry problem. I am guna change fuel filter first....?

...but assume I might need to replace the mechanical fuel pump. I have not done this work before. The fuel filter is the in-line type (its got the aftermarket summit racing fuel line). What should I be careful of whlile replacing the filter? And if problem isnt resolved, what steps do i need to take to replace the mechanical fuel pump? I am concerned about the rod - dont want to mess up internals.I have a 1967 chevy 350, and seems to have fuel delivry problem. I am guna change fuel filter first....?As far as the fuel filter, do it while the engine is cold, and put some rags down underneath. When you put it in, make sure it's in the right direction. There's usually an arrow on the filter that should face towards the carb. Make sure the clamps are in good condition and tight.

You might want to make sure you don't have a filter inside the carb too. It's #55 in this diagram for a Quadrajet.

The pushrod that goes between the cam eccentric and the fuel pump lever will come down, but it won't fall out. Just push it back up and hold it in position while you put the new fuel pump lever underneath it, then put the pump in place to bolt it in. Put a light coating of disc brake grease on the top of the lever to pre-lube it.

Here's a link to the procedure from the '67-'81 Camaro Repair Guide:

(don't forget the Permatex.)I have a 1967 chevy 350, and seems to have fuel delivry problem. I am guna change fuel filter first....?You don't really have to worry much about replacing the filter , but there is a special tool you can buy that is great to take the clip off. Plus you'll need a container to put under the car but really you should get just one gusher of gas when disconnecting the gas lines from filter and then just slow drips afterwards. I suggest you do this work when the engines is cold by the way.

From my knowledge that fuel pump isn't that hard to replace but if I was you I'd get a Haynes or some type of service manual on that engine or vehicle.

Hope that helps and best of luck, by the way I love those cars wow nice vehicle, my favourite vehicles are GM products.
