Just changed 2000 Focus to biodiesel. DO i change fuel filter now & service it in March or full service now?

DOes anyone know about biodiesel?...One biodiesel supplier said i should get a full service very near to when car was due for servicing - couldn't say when - didn't want to give the wrong answer?. Yet another said just change the fuel filter after 2 tanks. He had a landy that packed up after 4 1/2 tanks without fuel filter change. Is a blocked filter likely to affect my car starting in the morning? Not sure if I can change it myself, just ordered the Haynes manual - should i be tampering with it - as a complete novice? My MOT is due in March, so thought i could save pennies with booking both together.Just changed 2000 Focus to biodiesel. DO i change fuel filter now %26amp; service it in March or full service now?I know a enough about biodiesel to avoid using it:

1- Ford does not approve use of biodiesel, so any problem to your engine will invalid your warranty

2- You can only rely on word of mouth to get information on biodiesel usage...

switched to biodiesel now? Change the filter immediately!Just changed 2000 Focus to biodiesel. DO i change fuel filter now %26amp; service it in March or full service now?Fuel filters are inexpensive and with a Hayne's manual, you should have no problem doing the job yourself, almost certainly with regular tools. Yes, I'd change it now, change it after 2 tanks or so just to see, and then change it after a few more. It's kind of like changing your oil often...you can't hurt it by giving it a new filter.

Follow the directions properly (no shortcuts) and the whole process should only take 10-15 minutes, whereas you'll probably get jabbed with $50-80 for a filter and labor at a shop and it may take a day (considering workload).

Oh...yes, a clogged fuel filter will obviously hamper performance, or not give you a start at all. Your fuel has to pass through the filter before it gets to the engine in all cases.Just changed 2000 Focus to biodiesel. DO i change fuel filter now %26amp; service it in March or full service now? When changing fuel types to bio diesel it is important to change your fuel filter as soon as you can. This is because bio diesel has a mild solvent action which will release particles from inside the tank and fuel lines. It is not unusual to have to change the filter a couple of times during this process. Many add a second filter. It is also important to ensure that the bio diesel supply you are getting is filtered and free of contaminants. If you are buying from a commercial supplier it is usually pretty clean and is likely a blend of diesel/bio diesel. If you are using recycled vegetable oil, this has to be filtered several times and is usually heated in order to facilitate cold starting. You can go on line to many different forums about the pros and cons of bio diesel use. Just Google bio diesel and read away.Just changed 2000 Focus to biodiesel. DO i change fuel filter now %26amp; service it in March or full service now?jdm is right , you should change the filter a few times since bio-diesel will clean contaminants from your tank , good luck and welcome to the league of do it yourselfers

Can anyone tell me how to change a fuel filter and/or pump on a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?

I have a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that sputters when I step on the gas. It stalled this morning when I was idling at a stop light but started right back up again. Could this be the fuel filter or fuel pump? Is the fuel filter located in the gas tank? If anyone can give me a walk-through on how to change the fuel filter and/or pump, I would greatly appreciate it.Can anyone tell me how to change a fuel filter and/or pump on a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo? The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. To change the fuel pump you will have to remove the fuel tank.

There is an inline fuel filter that is not so hard to change. Try that first. It is located near the fuel tank under the rear of the Jeep.

Stalling at idle is more likely caused by a dirty idle speed control solenoid. This can be cleaned by spraying throttle body cleaner into the little slot near the throttle plate inside the throttle body.

Before servicing the fuel pump or filter, you need to test the fuel pressure. Many auto parts stores have loaner tools available or they may check it for you. The tool consists of a pressure gage that connects to the fuel pressure test port. Normal pressure for the aniline six is around 40psi. A faulty fuel pressure regulator can cause the problems you are seeing as well.

If you do remove the fuel pump form the tank, pay close attention to he rubber hose that connects the pump to the lines. I just had a time tracking down a mystery fuel pressure problem in a Cherokee that turned out to be a pin hole in that little rubber hose.

If the lines are metal, you will need to spill a bit of fuel at the filter end, but a rag will do nicely. ***Remember to disconnect the battery prior to service, as power to the fuel sending unit will cause it to push fuel up the line to the engine, causing much more leakage and a dangerous hazard to you and the environment***How do I change a fuel filter?Have to know more info. Fuel injection or carb? Make and model also. Letting the gas leak is asking for a fire and possible injury. How do I change a fuel filter? There are usually no fuel shut off valves on fuel lines. If you have a leaking tank you need to get all of the fuel out of it and fix/replace it or you are a moving bomb waiting for a spark to blow you up!

I assume you've found the fuel filter? (It can be anywhere in the fuel line depending on make and model.) It is usually held in a clamp and has the 2 fuel lines clamped to it. Have the new filter ready and waiting to be installed. (make sure you can see the arrow or marking that shows which way to mount it as filters are one way only.) Unclamp one line from the old filter and pull the line off of the filter. (I always disconnect the line from the filter to the engine first as the old dirty filter will restrict the flow of fuel from the tank somewhat and minimize the spilled gas.) Put your finger over the end that is towards the fuel tank and push the removed line onto the proper end of the new filter. (make sure you have the loosened clamp on the line) Now remove the other clamp and line from the old filter and push them onto the other end of the new filter. Tighten the clamps and put the filter back into its holder. Messy, but all done.

Note: if you have a fuel injection system, you might need to bleed it off before changing the filter. A repair manual for your make and model will say if that is needed and how to do it. (Chilton and Haynes, sold at local auto parts stores, make the best repair manuals for the backyard mechanic.)

Fuel Filters just screw off, and screw in. They are fairly simple to change. Make sure you hav something to catch the excess fuel though.

Where to locate and how to change a fuel filter on a 1987 Oldsmobile 88 Royal Brougham?

Got the fuel filter its the right model just dont know where and how to change it, thanks in advanceWhere to locate and how to change a fuel filter on a 1987 Oldsmobile 88 Royal Brougham?I own a shop, and yours is one that is on the frame rail (drivers side) about half way between the engine, and fuel tank. It is best to raise the front of the vehicle to keep the fuel from running out. Look in the fuse box, find the fuse that says %26quot;fuel pump%26quot;, remove it before you attempt to replace the filter, as some pumps will run some even when the ignition switch is in the off mode. Look at the filter, and you will see a place for a wrench on both ends of the filter, so find something that fits it. Look at the fuel line, and find a good tight fitting wrench that fits the line. It is best to use a line wrench for this, but a good tight fitting wrench usually works ok. Remove the strap around the filter, and find something to catch fuel in. Remove the front (towards the engine) line first, pay close attention to the end of the line where it goes into the filter, there should be an o-ring on the line, so don't loose or damage it. When the fuel has stopped draining, remove the rear line, and turn the filter to where it (as well as the line) can drain into the container, and not all over you. Doing this job is a serious fire hazzard, so it's best to do outside in the fresh air, and be careful about making any sparks. Once the old filter is off, look at the new one to make sure it is the correct one for your vehicle. There should be one end of the filter that tells you the direction of flow by an arrow, or letter that says %26quot;IN, or OUT%26quot;. In would be towards the tank, and out towards the front of the vehicle. Make sure the o-ring is in place, and attach the rear line, but don't tighten it yet. Slide the clamp over the filter that holds it to the frame rail making sure it is correct, but don't attach to frame yet. Install the front line making sure the o-ring is in place. Now you can attach the clamp that holds the filter to the frame, and tighten down. Hold the filter with one wrench, and tighten the rear line. You will find it easy to tighten by mashing the two wrenches together. Tighten the front line in the same fashion, and install the fuse back in its place. Turn the ignition switch to the on position, but don't start the engine, and check the connections of the line by rubbing with your fingers to see if they are wet, if so the lines are not tight enough or the o-ring is bad. Once you are satisfied there is no leaks, start the engine, and check for leaks again. If there are no leaks, you are good to go.

    Sorry no experience with those.

But as it can't be more difficult than any other automobile, if you want to do it without getting any kind of manual specific for your vehicle - which I suggest so it can show you where the location is - then you would have to just get under it and trace the fuel lines from the fuel tank until where the filter is.

There may be one incorporated inside the tank or more commonly is inline with the fuel line under the vehicle.

Yet another may be in the engine compartment near the fire wall before the fuel line connects to the fuel rail.

Easiest way to learn for your vehicle is to get a manual for that van.

    1. Depressurize the system.

    2. Remove old filter (have rags and drip pan available to contain the mess).

    3. Install the new filter.

    4. Pressurize the system

    5. Run the vehicle for a few minutes.

    6. Check for leaks.

Some of the sites below may help you too.

Just trying to help as I noticed no one answered this question yet! Good luck!

How do you change the fuel filter and fuel pump?

How do you change it? Isnt the fuel pump and fuel filter located in the back of the car by the gas tank? How do you change the fuel filter and fuel pump? There are few kinds of pumps. The most used ones are the in tank and the in line ones. Without the make and model I can only guess that yours is inside the fuel tank.

It is not an easy job for non experienced person. However, here are the steps to fallow,

It is better to do it with an empty tank...

    - Unhook the battery

    - Open the gas tank cap.

    - Release the fuel pressure from the fuel pressure rail (There is a valve that looks like a tire valve)

    - Lift and jack the vehicle up.

    - Take the wheel off

    - Put a jack under the tank just to hold this one up.

    - Take the two bolts holding the two metal straps.

    - Slowly lower the tank half way.

    - Unplug the harness

    - Unhook the fuel line and the air line.

    - Completely lower the tank.

    - There are couple of systems used to secure the pump in a tank. You should be able to figure out how to take the fuel pump off when you see it. If you cannot, then you are not skilled enough to the job.

    - The installation is the reverse (Do exactly the reverse except the fuel pressure release).

    You are done.

NOTE: Make sure you clean the tank before taking off the pump as a dirt can get in.

    Good luck!

I forgot all about the fuel filter. If you fallow the fuel line from the tank towards the engine, you would see it underneath the car. The fuel filter isnt under the hood. so i guess it's under the car.How do i change fuel filter on 1991 buick park avenue?Yes, the fuel filter is located under the car close to the fuel tank. I believe that its on the driver side, but not sure. All you'll need is a 13/16 inch wrench and a 16mm wrench. Once you see it, you'll understand. The other side of the filter should have a black hose with a clear clip holding the gas line onto the filter. All you need to do is push the clear clip together to release it. Also, you may want to remove the gas cap before doing this so that the fuel system won't have pressure on it.

How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?

So for the last few days when I'm at a stop light or sign, then try to accelerate, it's like my car (98 mercury tracer) wants to die. I was told by some random guys in the parking lot of the mall that it's most likely my fuel filter, and that it's possible to change it myself, because of the location of it.I want to try to do this, and if it doesn't work, bring it to my usual shop and get a %26quot;tune up%26quot;, just basically change filters and stuff. First question, can someone explain to me how to change a fuel filter? And my second question, how much does a tune up cost? I'm so lost! How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?Buy the Hayes or Chilton book and you can do all that yourself. I don't know where the filter is on your car; but get underneath your car and look for a fuel line coming out of the gas tank. Follow that line until you see it. you may want to buy it first at Autozone so you know what it looks like. They're easy to change, you just pull the lines out of it from both size.

That's about all there is to a tuneup these days. How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?It could be the fuel filter but it could also be the plugs. Instead of taking advice here go to the auto parts store and buy a %26quot;Chilton's%26quot; book for your particular model of car. If it's an intermittent problem -- for example when it's damp outside -- it could be a bad spark plug wire. Very easy to change. Depending on your engine, the cost should be $20 - $60 for a set.

If you have more than 60k miles, I would try the wires also. How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?to change a fuel filter on the newer cars its not so simple.you would be better off getting it replaced at the same time as the tune up .the fuel filter should be a part of the tune up on most cars.the f/filter may not be the cause of your hesitation .it could be the fuel injectors (if the car is equipped with them) take to your local shop and have it checked. How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?MIA please you just asking this questions well you wont be able to do this job. How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche?

Can I simply remove the two lines to the fuel filter, change filter and reconnect the lines? How do I keep gas from draining? How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche?I recently added this section onto my seb site. There is a part on there wtih images and with text to show you how to do it. There will not be very much fuel, if any, coming from the filter. I would still have a small container to catch it, because even a drop can make you smell for a while.

    http://www.myjeepwrangler.com/fuel-filte

Here are the instructions that I copied and pasted:

This is the location of the fuel filter in my '95 Jeep Wrangler. The view is from the back, driver's side. The best way to get to the fuel filter is to get under the Jeep from in front of the back driver's side tire. It is mounted on the inside of the frame.

You will have to loosen the straps buy using a flat head screw driver on both sides of the fuel filter. Unscrew the strap in the middle holding the filter to the frame. Once the straps are loose, get out the the way, because some gas will leak when you pull the filter out. Pull the tubes off of each side of the fuel filter and replace it with a new one.

Hope this helps! How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche? There won't be that much gas come out in order to change the filter. Go ahead and try it.How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche?Yes you can do that but I would suggest you relieve the pressure on the system first. If you do not relieve it you will get an eye-full of fuel and that will burn your eyes. The way to relieve pressure is under the hood. Locate the fuel injection rail. It will be a shiny silver line along the intake on the engine. It will be connected to all of the injectors. On this line there is a Schroeder valve (just like the air valve on your tire). Remove cap and depress valve to relieve pressure. How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche?no draining at all. remove the two lines and a little gas will come out. make sure you follow the arrow on the filter and you'll be done in about five minutes. How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche? If this Heep is fuel injected, remove fuel pump relay in underhood relay box and crank engine until dead.

Pressure relieved. How do I change fuel filter - jeep comanche?Yes, you simply repace the filter. And there will be some dribbles in the process. It is best to remove the lines and then stop what you are doing and take a break allowing the filter to finish dribbling before finishing the process. Obviously, don't smoke or have other sources of ignition during the process.
