Fuel filter change - Fuel line clamping????

I am about to change the fuel filter on my Mk1 Renault Clio. In the Haynes Manual it says to clamp the fuel line before the filter.

Can anyone tell me what to use for this? I thought just a set of locking pliers. But is there something better/more suited out there?

Many thanks

DarrenFuel filter change - Fuel line clamping????You should be ok with locking pliers.

I use a plastic set of clamping pliers out of Halfords but basically anything that clamps the line will be ok.

Obviously you will try to lift the line up so as little fuel as possible escapes. Alternatively just place a small bowl underneath to catch any spillage.Fuel filter change - Fuel line clamping????try vice grips. you can set the tightness of them, make sure they are well on before taking the fuel filter off. there still will be a little fuel that will come out of the pipe, but not much.Fuel filter change - Fuel line clamping????Yes, self locking pliers or mole grips, but use a rag in the jaws to protect the pipe, or you'll split it.Fuel filter change - Fuel line clamping????I'm sure it's talking about hose clamps. Most fuel-line hose clamps have a 1/4 inch head that can also be turned with a screwdriver. They're really easy to over-tighten. They don't need a death-grip, just a little snug and they'll be fine.

If it's an inline filter, you will have no problem figuring out how to replace it. It's self-explanatory, and not brain surgery.

If it's an unusual application (which most are these days), just pay close attention to the old one when you remove it and put the new one in the same way.

Fuel filters are seldom bi-directional. It's important to put them in so the fuel flows in the proper direction.Fuel filter change - Fuel line clamping????There will be a little fuel come out of the line, but not enough to hurt anything.Fuel filter change - Fuel line clamping????hemostats. they won't crush the hose or add too much weight to the line.Fuel filter change - Fuel line clamping????There are special tools to clamp hoses, you could get a cheap one from a motorist shop.Mole grips can damage the pipe unless you use some kind of insulator.
