How do you change the fuel filter on a 2000 Dodge Stratus?

It is held in place by the froward tank strap, nearly on top of the fuel tank. No special tools are needed to replace it. Not easy to access, but it is changeable. How do you change the fuel filter on a 2000 Dodge Stratus?should be under car next to frame rail on same side as tank. generally anyway, maybe under your hood. usually to small plastic clips holding it on, squeeze them together and should come off. and yes you will get gas on you, just clean up when finished.

How do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?

i have a 1998 dodge ram 2500 diesel. i changed the fuel filter yesterday and then it wouldnt start. i filled the fuel filter canister with diesel but i know i still have some air in the lines that isnt coming out and it still wont start. what can i do to solve this problem? How do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?bleed the injectersHow do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?on my 2500 Chev diesel I have a primer that I pump 6-7 times to prime (get the air out) after I change fuel filtersHow do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?Rob if there is air still in the fuel line you will ned to bleed it out. Make sure your fuel filter is filled all the way to the top with diesel. Then there will be a fuel line that runs into the fuel pump. Crack the line open about a half a turn. Once you do that have someone roll the engine over and over. This will let the air bleed out of the fuel lines. Keep rolling the engine over until the engine fires off. Once it fires off close the fuel line off while it is running. hope this answers you questionHow do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter? If the above answer doesn't work.crack the fuel lines one at a time at the injector and crank it over to get the air out.helps to have a battery charger connected and don't crank allot so your starter doesn't overheat.ase techHow do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter? The above answer is the correct way for you to get all the air out. But..... if it is cold where you are, and you dont feel like breaking lines loose try this method that I have used on my 2000 Cummins. Fill the filter completely, turn the key to the on position, wait for the fuel pump to quit running, bump the key forward real quick, the fuel pump will run again for 8-10 seconds. Do this 2 or 3 times and then try to start. If it wont start do it again. This has worked for me everytime I change my filter.Sometimes I have to do it twice, but, once is usually enough. How do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?you may need to refill the filter bowl with diesel. take the cap off carefully, add diesel, about 2/3 full and replace the filter cap. try starting. you may have to do this a couple times. also check your hpop (high pressure oil pump) for oil level. it is on the top front of motor. remove the fill plug and make sure oil is within 1%26quot; of top. you need this full as it provides oil pressure to open the fuel injectors. excessive cranking can drain it.

i'm guessing that the truck ran fine until you changed the fuel filter. when changing try to remove slowly and let fuel drain from old filter back into filter bowl and when putting new filter in do this slowly too so as to keep from spilling fuel out of bowl. How do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?find the bleeder valve on the injector pump turn the key on don't start it and the fuel pump should bleed itself

Do you change your fuel filter when you service your car?Actually it's wont in most case's make any difference that YOU would feel. The filters stop rust and other stuff from getting into small jets in your fuel system. Unless its almost completely blocked off (The filter) starving the engine for gas, you wont notice a difference. The filter is made so it can be blocked a certain amount and still provide plenty of gas to th engine.

However, you really don't want to get to the point that you starve your engine for fuel, so as cheap as it is, you replace it Before it gets to that point. Regular service as listed in the manual does this.Do you change your fuel filter when you service your car?You don't say whether it it is a petrol or diesel engine, which ever way it's important to change the fuel filter it can save you a whole load of grief. How do I change the fuel filter on a 2000 Chevy Silverado?

Along the inside of the frame rail near the driver's side rear door as I recall, and you'll need end wrenches to gradually unscrew the nuts to allow the fuel to drain out. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves and have a fire extinquisher nearby. Chock the truck wheels to keep it from rolling while your under the vehicle. You shouldn't need to raise the vehicle. If you do, you'll need safety jack stands on a hard level surface.

Look up your make year model on http://www.autozone.comHow do I change the fuel filter on a 2000 Chevy Silverado?I'm not looking at the specs for the truck in front of me, but most EFI vehicles use electric fuel pumps that pressurize the fuel system.

Before you do anything, disconnect the negative battery lead, no smoking or open flames, then depressurize the fuel system. You can do this several ways. Normally loosening a fuel line after the gas cap is removed, will release the pressure. Just be prepared to have gas or diesel spewing out. I'd recommend eye protection and gloves, plus have the fire bottle handy....just in case.

Don't do like my Redneck friends and try to work on the truck after a six pack while smoking a Marlboro.....

Most fuel filters are located in the fuel line itself. Many on newer vehicles are under the chassis directly under the driver's seat. Have your eye protection on, a catch container for remaining fuel under pressure or draining from the lines when you loosen the fuel filter for removal. DO NOT GET IN A HURRY WITH YOUR WRENCH! By that I mean be gentle, slow turns, no sparks.....otherwise St. Peter will still be laughing when you get blown into the gates of heaven....Angels will be rating your performance with those Olympic card things 1-10.

It's a simple repair, and the fuel filter is normally less than $15. Just keep in mind common sense. Gasoline per gallon has the same explosive potential as 11 sticks of TNT. Vapors Explode, gas on the skin or eyes causes 2nd degree burns, fumes get you high and cause brain damage.

So do this outdoors, and keep in mind a mistake could be serious burns or fatal.

Those are only replaced if they are found to be faulty. When i take my car to a mechanic and tell hime to do a tuneup on it, does he also change the fuel filter?you should also ask. The first job is of the service advisor to ask, but they usually forget. to do the job right it should be done. The filter is probably very plugged and starting to cause stress on the fuel pump. When i take my car to a mechanic and tell hime to do a tuneup on it, does he also change the fuel filter?Be careful of open ended requests at the garage! One shop I know of, a %26quot;tune up%26quot; included $200 worth of everything from windshield fluid to changing every filter and rotating the tires.

Do yourself a favor and look in your owners manual/service book that came with the car. It will tell you when you should replace what, and what should be adjusted, etc.

Make up your list and tell the mechanic I want you to do 1, 2, and 3. If they want to do more, ask them to call you first for approval. So, tell them to change the fuel filter, if that is what you want, don't assume anything.

Once a mechanic builds up your trust, then stick with them , but be ever watchful. Sometimes they will still lead you to spend un-needed dollars. You've taken the first step, educate yourself. Keep your own records of everything that has been done to your car to pevent and protect your money.

Yes... but unless you have over 100,000 miles I'd let it go, but if you are going to remove the tank ( because it is over 100,000 miles... you might as well replace the fuel pump too...Then you should be good for another 100,000 miles.Do you have to drop the fuel tank completely to change the fuel filter on a 99 Stratus?Yep. Seems pretty insane to install a maintenance part that way, huh? I'd wager very few filters ever get changed on those cars.Do you have to drop the fuel tank completely to change the fuel filter on a 99 Stratus?no you don't , after you loosen the tank straps it will pull down far enough to get the pump and strainer out, but if you have never done this repair it may be better to remove the tank as the seal and lock ring will be easier to install, especially if this job will be done in your driveway without a hoist ..time needed for a first timer around 6 hours, skilled technician time 2 hours

Why did my mechanic Recommend i NOT change the Fuel Filter?

He said the Fuel Lines were very rusted, so i should change the Filter and Lines together. Is there any Truth to this?

(He also recommended we put 3 quarts of the OLD Transmission fluid, that wa sa Brownish-looking color and smelled slightly burnt, into the %26quot;New%26quot; Transmission, he thought it wasnt gonna work. Found out we coulda changed Filter and put ALL NEW Fluid in it when we put %26quot;New%26quot; Trans in, but we instlaled the Trans, didnt drop the Pan.)

What is your advice about the Fuel Lines and Fuel Filter? Where cna i get Fuel %26quot;Lines%26quot; if they are needed? Why did my mechanic Recommend i NOT change the Fuel Filter?Sounds like your mechanic took one look at your fuel lines and knew from experience that trying to separate the fuel filter could easily result in further, more extensive repairs.

Eventually, you will need to replace these lines because they will leak - why not now? It's just good practice to replace rusted and corroded brake and fuel lines before they fail and leave you stranded someplace or worse. Why did my mechanic Recommend i NOT change the Fuel Filter?fuel lines you make/get new mechanic/you are dealing with the part of the horse that farts/lube up the lines and gently try to take the fuel filter out/in a pinch you can use flexible gas line with clamps/works all the time and thats from a guy that knows mechanics/old trans fluid is trashWhy did my mechanic Recommend i NOT change the Fuel Filter?Either make the lines from stock tubing or buy new lines from the dealer. If they're %26quot;rusted%26quot;, I'd 1) find a better mechanic and 2) have him check the fuel tank - that's more likely to rust than stainless steel lines. The lines may have rust in them, but are they rusting or is it coming from the tank? Why did my mechanic Recommend i NOT change the Fuel Filter? If they are rusty, he is correct. If you just put a new filter on it will get stopped up again quickly. You can try a new filter and see how long it takes to clog again. That will give you an idea how rusty the lines are.

The best option is to change the lines and the filter.

The transmission issue is a little disconcerting. You may want to look for a new mechanic.

My chevy 02 silverado quit, seems fuel related, change fuel filter, plugs and more ideas?

It started sputtering on highway just dropped speed died out. Change fuel fiter and plugs(needed new plugs anyway). Still nothing having battery troubles too now. Anyway starts up few second when spray ether then dies. If i continue to spray ether runs, as soon as I stop spraying it dies. I am not sure everyone says fuel pump but I can hear it when I turn key. Any ideas on what else to check? Maybe I should check fuel pressure? If fuel pump is mounding when turn key working right. Hope this helps...All the best.My chevy 02 silverado quit, seems fuel related, change fuel filter, plugs and more ideas? Why do you think it is fuel related? Everything seems to be working in your fuel system, anyway, here is what you need to do.

Get a fuel pressure tester, a spark tester, a set of Noid lights, and then hook them up and crank the engine, wihichever doesn't work is where your problem is. Fuel filter change on Peugeot 106... how important?

I've had my Peugeot 106 for just over 2 years now, but it's just over 6 years old, and only 41,000 miles on the clock. I need to get it serviced but don't know what type of service I need, I have been told that there's a basic one, and also one where they change the fuel filter for 100 more... seems pretty expensive to me, but how important is it to get this changed? The last time it was serviced was at 30,000 miles, before I got it... Please help!Fuel filter change on Peugeot 106... how important?Look in the vehicle handbook, it will give the service schedule for the 106, different cars have different features which need attention, I guess the 106 is a diesel,

The minor service, drain oil and replace with Crappo brand oil, wipe the oil filter to make it look like new and tell you you need 400 worth of tyres/ shocks/ alignment etc is a Crap fit speciality and is OK if you do 6000 per year to get the tyres tread checked and oil changed, but it aint a service, but they wont do the little things that a decent local garage will do and you can easily find the cam belt change mileage has slipped by and you need a new engine 'cause it has snapped.

Oil suffers from short journeys, condensation forms internally, then boils off after about 6 or 7 miles when the oil temp comes up, if the engine does not run at full temperature for a while the resulting water sinks to the bottom of the engine raising the oil level, after a while internal corrosion starts, and the ol level gets too high which starts oil loss through the breather system, if the car then does a motorway journey the water boils off and the oil level drops alarmingly for this reason a short journey car should have 6 montly oil changes, while a 10 000 per year can make do with a 12 monthly changes. Low mileage cars are not a particularly clever buy, One of mine has done 172 000 at present, it replaced a newer one of the same model which was uneconomic to repair at 89 000, but it still gets regular services despite running out of service book at 96 000,

Fuel filters are use related not age, use the same supermarket for fuel every time the filter will probably outlive the car fill up from local garages, with dirty stale petrol, you will need a filter about every 20 000, fill up from jerrycans which have been uesed for creosote, it is about 20 miles, I actually managed 2 on one memorble occasion.

So check the handbook, or wander round your pug dealer and ask what their service consists of, write it down and get your local garage to do it, but never exceed time or mileage on a cam belt, my mates Fiat Regatta belt broke 500 miles before the change was due....Fuel filter change on Peugeot 106... how important? It is a good idea to change the fuel filter I can mine on my Peugeot 406 every 12,000 miles as it collects all of the crap from the fuel and fuel tank. I am very surprised that it is an extra 100 as the filter is only pounds and if it is a diesel it is a 5 minute job. If it was me I would get prices from a few more garages as I think they are having a laugh. Good luckFuel filter change on Peugeot 106... how important? If its a petrol 106 with the TU1 engine (1100 cc) then the fuel filter is an in line plastic affair and costs next to nothing from any motor factors.

A reputable garage should change the Oil, filter, Plugs and Air filter. It's not necessary to get the expensive service done yet, and judging by your mileage (approx 5000 a year) then an oil change and basic service is best.

when it hits 50k or even 55k then get a major service done, which will mean brakes, Gearbox oil (possibly) all filters and maybe the coolant changed. Shop around, or get a recommendation from a friend as regarding the best local garage or mechanic to do it.

I have a 205 peugeot with an 1100 cc engine, I've had it since 97, she's done 145,000 miles and gets new oil every 10k and a service every 15.Fuel filter change on Peugeot 106... how important?Considering that you have had two years motoring, 100 doesnt sound out of the way to me theres much more to a service than just changing an fuel filter what about the oil filter and air filter not besides all the checks that have to be carried out on a normal

    10000 mile service.

Is it necessary to change a vehicle's fuel filter?

I was online comparing oil filters and happened to stumble on fuel filters and, after reading it, I wanted to know if it was really necessary to change it (they recommended 12-15K miles per change). One of my cars has about 80K on it and the filter has never been changed. Is it really critical? I checked my owner's manual and nowhere does it mention changing fuel filters on a regular basis, nor have I heard of changing it from any mechanic. It does make sense that debris from dirty gas can clog the filter, but how many gallons do you need to fill up to get that kind of blockage? Also, my other car, 2004 Honda Accord, doesn't even have a fuel filter I can buy for it. I guess it's located somewhere that only a mechanic service. If it's so critical, why doesn't the owner's manual mention it? Is it just an unnecessary expense that doesn't have any value? Is it necessary to change a vehicle's fuel filter? After every 50 fill-ups and/or 3,000-4,000 miles. Almost like the oil and oil filter. Have them all changed at the same time.

If you didn't change the fuel filter in 80k miles then the fuel that's put in must diluted as well. Get Fuel Injector cleaner, Lucas is the best, on your next fill up put that stuff in.Is it necessary to change a vehicle's fuel filter?I drove a suv for 15 years 175,000 miles and never changed the fuel filter. Then I moved to a different area, within a month it wouldn't start the only problem was the fuel filter was stopped up. One of the gas stations in the new area had trash in their tanks, so I would say yes change it but only about every 75,000 miles. Is it necessary to change a vehicle's fuel filter?yes at least every other oil change or at every oil change they arent that exspensiveIs it necessary to change a vehicle's fuel filter?I have a Subaru with 144,000 on it, a Toyota with 102,000 on it, and I've owed many others that have had over 100K and never put on a new fuel filter.

here's my reasoning, which goes against what other people may think. If a fuel filter was restricted at all, it would affect the car at high speed, while the most amount of fuel was going thru the filter. It wouldn't have problems driving around town or any of that.Is it necessary to change a vehicle's fuel filter? The quality of the fuel going into cars anymore is far and away superior to what went into cars just twenty years ago. Go back forty years and the fuel was visibly different. From that aspect, fuel filters are almost - but not quite! - unnecessary. They're there to catch bits of crud that make it into the fuel from the tanker, the pipeline, and your own fuel tank - that's where the filter really earns its keep. It doesn't take a large bit of crud to stop up a fuel injector.

80K miles? Go ahead and change it. $10, 10 minutes - a small trade for one less thing to worry about. They're easy to replace - simple hand tools will get it loose, and it's usually close to the fuel tank, but models vary. Have a couple of pencils on hand to plug the fuel lines so you don't wind up taking an unleaded shower.

Get a copy of the Haynes repair manual for your make and model of car. They're typically less than $25, and worth every penny. You'd be surprised how much you can do, once a professional has done it first and written it out for you.

There is a fuel filter on your Accord. It's inside the tank. That's a bit more involved, but still an easy couple of hours to fix. They're available online (price I found: $65) or at your dealership. Dropping the tank and changing it yourself will save you lots and lots of money compared to $60/hr labor the shop charges. Is it necessary to change a vehicle's fuel filter?yes, ALL vehicles have some kind of filtering media (filter) for fuel. debris builds up at the bottom of your fuel tank over time. whether it's rust, dirt, or even crap from the fuel pump itself. the fuel pump is usually designed to prevent picking up this stuff, but it doesn't always work. better to catch it as soon as possible before it enters the engine. Is it necessary to change a vehicle's fuel filter?this is not rocket science. if the fuel filter is replaceable it is meant to be replaced. if it is located inside the fuel tank it is usually part of the fuel pump or pick up assembly and is replaced when the fuel pump failsIs it necessary to change a vehicle's fuel filter?yes you should have changed it 50,000 miles ago to keep your car running good and from getting the fuel injectors plugged.

How to change fuel filter in 2001 Blazer

How do you change the fuel filter on a 2004 Chevy Colorado?

I have an '05, and though I don't know the exact answer to your question I know the filter isn't in the tank. If you go to Coloradofans.com and do a search, or just make a profile and ask in one of the forums it shouldn't take too long to get an answer. It may well be inside the fuel tank. if the tank has an internal fuel pump, this will almost certainly be where the fuel filter is fitted.

Removing the tank i often required to get access - though in some vehicles, there is an access panel in the boot (trunk) which allows you access to it without removing the tank.

How do I change the fuel filter on my 1980 Mercedes 300CD?

It's a pretty easy job. There are 2 of them first of all. The prefilter is in the fuel line ( look below the inj. pump ). It's held in place by clamps so undue the clamps and replace the filter ( it's hard to screw up because the filter is an L-shape but I'll say it anyway, there should be an arrow on the filter which indicates the fuel flow direction ). The main one just unscrews ( very much like a spin-on oil filter ). You will get some diesel fuel leaking out so you may want to put some rags or paper towels underneath to catch the fuel just to keep the smell down.
