Does anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that they have to change the fuel filter on?

There seems to be a special tool needed to disconnect the fuel line from the end of the filter . Anybody know how this works and if you need a special tool where do you get it?Does anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that they have to change the fuel filter on?The special tool is a spring lock disconnect. Available at auto store. They come in a packege with different sizes. They should show you how to use it. You will need new o rings of proper size also. I have vehicles with 100k miles and have never found a need to change a fuel filter. Be sure you know what you are doing as fuel lines are under 40psi or so.Does anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that they have to change the fuel filter on?i just changed one on a 95 jeep and all i used was a pair of pliers just pinch the gray plastic peace and pull on the fuel line then push it up so gas doesn't go everywhere and do the front the same then take the plastic clips off and reuse them on the new fuel filter

Can anyone point me to a link on how to change the fuel filter on my Ford Focus?

Also, is one brand of fuel filter better than another? Can anyone point me to a link on how to change the fuel filter on my Ford Focus?Jack up the rear of the vehicle, or raise it up on a lift. The fuel filter is located rearward of the fuel tank, but forward of the right/rear wheel. It's always best to replace with OEM filter. At $9.74 (part number FG-986-B from Ford), price shouldn't be an issue. The following are the steps for removal and installation.

Disconnect the evaporative emission pipe.

Remove the fuel filter outlet pipe.

Disconnect the fuel filter inlet pipe.

Remove the 8mm bolt securing the fuel filter and bracket to the body of the vehicle.

Remove the fuel filter.

Remove the 7mm bolt.

Slide out the fuel filter.

Installation

NOTE: Observe the direction of flow arrow.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Hope this helps. Can anyone point me to a link on how to change the fuel filter on my Ford Focus?Fuel filters are different sizes, but the one you have can be blown backward with high pressure air- and re-installed.

The round filter uses two pressure fittings that only need be unscrewed. The filter is on the side of the frame between the

rear tank and the front seats.

Replace it or blow it out- most likely it is not a problem- they only need replacing if someone dumped sugar in your tank.

Use flashlight or similar battery powered light just to be safe. If the filter is original, you may need tubing wrenches to avoid rounding fittings.

How to change a fuel filter in a 1998 honda civic ex?

i know how to change it but hoiw do i turn off the fuel pump so know fuel comes out?How to change a fuel filter in a 1998 honda civic ex?Here's how Honda service manuals say to relieve the fuel pressure

    1) Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery

    negative terminal.

    2) Remove the fuel fill cap.

3)Use a box end wrench on the 12 mm banjo bolt at

the fuel filter while holding the fuel filter with another

    wrench.

    4) Place a rag or shop towel over the 12 mm banjo bolt.

    5) Slowly loosen the 12 mm banjo bolt one complete

    turn.

The fuel pressure will push the fuel out of the loosend fitting and onto the rag. You must relieve the pressure before the fuel filter can be removed.

Another way to do it safely is to pull the main relay out of the connector and crank the engine over for about 15 seconds. The main relay controls the fuel pump and the ignition so the car won't start and the fuel pump wont' run but cranking it over should open the injectors to vent some of the pressure that is in the system. The main relay is located under the right side of the dash between the side of the glove box and the side of the car. You'll probably still have some residual pressure in the line but the fuel pump won't run with the relay out.

My car cut off on me and isn't starting, i try to crank it and it sounds like its out of gas....but it has a half tank of gas in it, i was told it is probably the fuel filter....the car has a new battery, and alternator is good,How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?I did it on my Maxima 92, and it was easy.. just look up for the filter. It's usually behind the motor, near the windshield. Once you know where it is, disconect the hose from both sides of the filter with a screwdriver and place the new one. tight them well, but not overtightened.

-(The filter has an out and an intake flow, make sure you don't reverse those when placing the new one).

-(The hose will have a certain gasoline pressure if your car uses a gas pump, so be careful with your eyes).

-(When you have the old one out, blow through it from the same way gasoline flows and see if it's blocked. Blow the new one too so you can see the difference. If the old one was kind of blocked or dirty, but it wasn't the problem of your car, at least you replaced a not so good filter).

How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?

I recently purchased a 98 ford windstar. sometimes when I start it up it idles really rough and occasionally dies. when I am stopped (in gear) and I give it a little gas, the tackometer goes up, and then down under 500 rpms and the oil light flickers. it runs fine once I get moving, it's just when I am stopped or going really slow. I was going to put fuel injector cleaner in, but I figured I would check the fule filter too. is there any way to tell if it needs to be replaced? How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?i would give this baby a complette tune up air filter pcv valve a gas filter plugs and wires and cap and then you know what you got going on under the hood . plus your transmission might need flushed unless you have a record of the last flush .How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?Since you don't know the mileage on the fuel filter a good gauge is power under load. If you are accelerating and it misses or does not have power that is usually the fuel filter. Because the engine is starving for gas. What you are describing is not fuel filter. How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?but a filter doesnt cost much.. so do it if you think it needs it. I agree with the guy above/below idk.. eather wayHow do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?Check the maintenance record on your Windstar. If it still has the original fuel filter on it then have it replaced. If you do replace it, DO NOT use fuel injector cleaner on it until you've had a chance to run a full tank of gas through that filter -- injector cleaner can damage brand new fuel filters. From personal experience I can tell you that I follow my father's advice and have had my fuel filter replaced in every vehicle I've driven every 50,000 miles and have never had a problem. Some people may say that's overkill, but it's not that expensive to change out a fuel filter and a clogged fuel filter can leave you stranded on the side of the road somewhere, so why take the chance? How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?Good answer LesterM

Can you change the FUEL FILTER on a Toyota Corolla?

I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla and I took it to one of the advance auto chains to buy a fuel filter and they said you MIGHT NOT HAVE TO change it on that type of vehicle since the fuel filter is built in the tank!

Can you change the FUEL FILTER on a Toyota Corolla?I have a 2002 Camry, 125,000 miles on it. Still has original filter on it. Has not been changed. You may not have to change it unless you get some bad gasCan you change the FUEL FILTER on a Toyota Corolla?I may be wrong but I've never heard of a fuel filter inside the tank, maybe the fuel pump but not the filter. At any rate, if there is a filter that can be replaced chances are there is at least one and maybe two on the fuel line. Get under the vehicle and trace the fuel line from the tank forward to the engine, if you see a metal can looking thing about the same size of a prescription pill bottle or a clear plastic one that you can see gasoline in thats one of them.

Go to the engine and check to see where the fuel line is screwed in and look to see if there is a smaller container, it may be only about as big around as a AA battery and about half that in length. You may not have the one on the engine but I'd almost bet there is one on the line somewhere.

Don't smoke or have any open flame or heat sources around while your doing removal or installation. Have a drip pan within reach and a piece of cork or rag to stop up both ends of the line. If you get gas on your bare skin, wash it off with plain old soap and water, if you get it on your clothes, take them off quick or you might get a heck of a blister. Can you change the FUEL FILTER on a Toyota Corolla?your answer is yes you can change the fuel filter. whether you want to or not is up to you. are you having a problem with fuel delivery? if so than by all means change it. if not than i would not bother after all it is a difficult process to do. not impossible just difficult.if you don't have any mechanical savy than i would recommend you take it somewhere to have this done.

Where is the fuel filter on a1993 Cutlass Supreme? How do you change the fuel filter?

I have a1993 olds cutlass Supreme it stated sputtering like it was not getting enough gas. I think I need to change the fuelf filter. I am a women and I's like to try changing it myself. HELP?Where is the fuel filter on a1993 Cutlass Supreme? How do you change the fuel filter?Under the car near fuel tank. Its recommended to release fuel system pressure before disconnecting the fuel lines. You can do this by removing the fuel pump fuse/relay or disconnecting the fuel pump and starting the engine and running it till it dies. The fuel system is under approx 40 psi even with the engine off. Just disconnecting this line at the fuel filter before doing so can result in fuel spraying in your face. I would recommend having a professional doing the repair if you are not exp in auto repairs.Where is the fuel filter on a1993 Cutlass Supreme? How do you change the fuel filter?Follow ur fuel line from ur gas tank to ur motor....You will see a cylinder like object. Usually it's close to ur gas tank on cars like these. You might want to change your air filter and plugs/wires.Where is the fuel filter on a1993 Cutlass Supreme? How do you change the fuel filter?I agree with the other poster that this isn't really a DIY job anymore because of the fuel pressure. The spray represents a fire hazard should there be an ignition source nearby and the age of the car indicates to me a potential for the lines in and out to be corroded and require some expert technique in removal.

I'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?

There is a little cup with clips on either side holding my fuel filter in. My manual said to squeeze the clips while pushing the filter in, then pull the filter out. When I squeezed the clips, they broke. How do I remove my fuel filter now and do I need those clips for the new filter to be held in properly?I'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?you probably did it as the manual suggested, but they still broke. The plastic they make these clips out of isn't very good quality. Depending on the filter you buy to replace the old one, it should come with clips that you can use as a replacement. I know from experience that Fram and Puralator filters both do. The best way to get the old filter out is to take a small screwdriver and carefully, without doing any more damage to the cup, finish prying out the old clip and slide the filter out. The new one that comes with the filter should work just fine to hold the filter in. Hope this helps!I'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?you need a new filterI'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire? You will have to buy the special tool for that will release the plastic clip.I'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?yes you need those clips, thats what holds the fuel filter to the frame. get plastic electrical wire ties to wire to the frameI'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?I just squeeze the 2 clips together with a pair on needle nose pliers and pull it off, the new filter will have a new clip with it.

No wonder why the car manufacturers are in trouble, they can't seem to pull their heads out of their asses!

In answer to your question, I would have to say yes. Anything is possible if you are creative. I went through a similar situation with a Dodge Caravan, the unit was a little tricky to open up, but patience and persistence is key here. If you get stuck, you could bring the unit to a shop that refurbishes gas tanks. A lot of these places also refurbish the sending units as well, they might be able to help you with that. Good Luck!!Is it possible to change the fuel filter in a 2000 nissan almera/sentra with a qg18de engine?nope. go to your dealer to ask for other options instead.

How do you change the fuel filter on a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer?

Also, where is the fuel filter located? How do you change the fuel filter on a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer?I own a shop, and this is how we do it. Just to be safe, and not burn down the shop, we remove the fuel pump fuse, or relay to keep it from coming on, and pumping the fuel while we work on it. Yes... the pump can come on with the ignition switch off, so do it safe, rather than sorry. We jack the front of the vehicle up by running up on some ramps, and this will keep the amount of fuel that comes out to a minimum. Use a container to catch the fuel in. The filter is located about mid-way between the wheels on the drivers side. You need a 10mm socket and/or a wrench to remove the bolt from the clamp that holds the filter in place. The bolt comes out from the top of the frame rail. You will need 5/8%26quot; line wrench, a 7/8'' open end wrench, a 3/4'' open end wrench to remove the lines. Remove the front line first, by holding the filter with one wrench, and turning the line nut with the 5/8'' line wrench. When you move the line forward out of the filter, you will get about a glass full of fuel come out. Be careful to not damage the O-ring that is on the line, as you will have to use it again. You might go by a dealership, and pick up some new ones, as this is the only place to get them. Now, remove the rear line by pulling the filter forward away from the line. This will also cause some gas to pour out, so be prepared to catch it. A good idea is to roll your sleeves up past your elbows when you do this job, and have several shop towles handy, because there is no way around some fuel pouring out. Drop the old filter in the bucket, and don't mess around getting the new one in place. If the fuel tank has much gas in it, it will push it out the line, so its a good idea to do this with a minimum of fuel in the tank. The O-rings that go on the lines are bad to break, and care must be taken to get the filter in place, and the lines back on. Tighten the lines good, replace the screw that holds it to the frame, replace the fuse, and turn the ignition switch on for 3 seconds, and off for three seconds. Do this several times to build the pressure back on the line. Now, inspect the filter for any leaks before you attempt to start the engine. When installing the new filter, look for an arrow on the filter that indicates the direction of flow, and you want the arrow pointing toward the front of the vehicle. Once you have determined there is no leaks, start the engine, and let it run for about 10 seconds, and shut if off again. Inspect the line for leaks by running you fingers around the fittings, and looking for any wet on your fingers. If its ok, then you are set to go.

Glad to help you, Good Luck!!!How do you change the fuel filter on a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer?Ok all these people or correct, but I just heard recently that for some unknown reason. They put some in the tank go figure. Should be on the drivers side though in the frame rail. 17 mm and a 20 mm needed to change it. I change mine every other oil change. How do you change the fuel filter on a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer? It's under the vehicle between the engine and the fuel tank. It either has a clip type fuel line or a clamp type fuel line and it will be more than likely clamped to the frame. How do you change the fuel filter on a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer?I just changed mine on a 2003, the fuel filter is on the drivers side between the front seat and back seat underneath the vehicle and there is a clamp holding the whole unit in place, take it out off the clamp and on one end you need 2 wrenches to loosen the fitting and on the other end you have a slip on connection that you have to squeeze 2 prongs together and pull it off. Just reverse everything to put it back on. Good Luck.

You have to depressurize the fuel injection pressured lines first so that the gasoline doesn't squirt all over and in your face when you disconnect the fuel filter. I recommend having it done at an independent garage. Unless you've run out of or real low on gas or have over 50,000 miles on the filter, I wouldn't bother replacing it yet. I change mine at 80,000 miles and have never had a problem. Your owner's manual probably does not specify a fuel filter change interval and many people will change them at much lower mileages because they simply don't know when they need changing! Is it hard to change the fuel filter on a 2002 sunfire? It's not hard it is under the car at the rear on the left all you'll need is a 5/8s and a 3/4 %26quot; wrenches and a drain bucket

It will only take ya about 20-35 mins. for the first time and maby 10-15 the next time.

if you'r doing the fuel filter it would be a good idea to do the air as well if you have'nt and do this every 20k mils or once a year the filters are what $40.00 for the two a pump is between 3-750 dollars ouch

and don't let your gas get below 1/4 tank it's the fuel that keeps the pump cool and lubed and the more fuel in the tank the less you stir up durt and or sand in the tank

ThanksWhere is the fuel filter on my 89 jeep wrangler and how do I change it?It is tucked under/next to the frame rail under the driver side door. You'll need to remove a plate and loosen the holding bracket to free the filter up before you can get at the hoses. Be sure to release any pressure on the fuel system by cracking a hose clamp on the filter. My 90' 2.5L is not fuel injected so not much pressure, but I still had a squirt of fuel. Have a pan and some rags handy as some fuel spill is inevitable. Loosen the clamps and remove the old filter. Replace with new and be sure to install in the right direction.

Most common problem with new bikes is a clogged jet in the carburetor.

Bikes are run at the factory and fluids are drained before shipping.

The carburetors never get fully drained.

What little gas that's left in the carb goes bad and clogs the jets, if not fully drained before the customer takes possession.

Bring it back to where you bought it and have them get the bike running properly - it's their responsibility to sell working products.

Or dis-assemble the carburetor yourself, remove and clean the jets - hold them up to the light - you should be able to see through it.How do I change the fuel filter on my Scooter?Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it....If your not a motorcycle mechanic, you can cause more damage, so just let them fix it.

Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?

I have an 88 chevy silverado, and I want to get the fuel filter changed. I was having a good buddy of mine, who has his own mechanic shop nearby whom I take it to for repairs, do it while he had to fix something else on it too. But I figured it's such a simple thing, why am I not doing this? I was just wondering if when I unbolt the fuel lines from it, the gas from the tank shouldn't come rushing out because the fuel pump isn't pumping, right? Thank you!!Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?Well, you 're right but you're forgetting about the gas already in the line, left there from the last time you drove the truck. THAT gas will indeed run out (not GUSH, but run out quickly). You need a bowl and some rags... it still isn't too bad, just be careful, don't smoke, etc... LOLGas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?There will be a little bit because the fuel line is pressurized. Just enough to get in your eye or your hair if you're not careful. I always unscrew the bolt with a stiff arm as far away as I can depending on where yours is. Make sure you shake the filter when the lines are off to get the extra fuel our of the filter. Remember which way it came off too.Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?if your vehicle is fuel injected , the system is under a little pressure, so before taking wrenches to it take off the gas cap. The fuel will come out of the line, but only that witch is still in the line so have a receptacle handy to catch it (gas plays hell with ashphalt) proceed with caution.Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?Cover all your bases. When you disconnect the lines have a golf tee ready for each line. They are small enough to go into the line and yet taper up to a big enough size to plug the hole. Has worked many times ove the years for me.Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?Vent the gas cap first to relieve any pressure in the tank. The only gas that ought to come out when you pull the filter is the stagnant fuel that was in the line (only a couple of ounces.)

Don't forget to tighten the cap when you're done.Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?No, the gas tank will not empty its contents all over your driveway.

but you will need a drain pan to catch the 8oz. of fuel that fills the filter.

Don't smoke while doing this either!

Good luckGas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?In order for the fuel to 'come gushing out' , the fuel PUMP must be operating. The fuel pump ONLY operates when the engine is turned on and running. Therefore, disconnecting the fuel lines when the engine is off, will be ok. You might lose a drop or two of fuel. BUT you know, changing the fuel filter is a relatively simple operation. Not that difficult. But I would suggest that you observe your mechanic friend doing it. The first time I attempted to do it, (via printed instructions in a parts and service manual), I damaged a 'flared fuel line'. After that, I watched a mechanic accomplish the same task. Then it was easy to do. I change the fuel filter in my vehicle about once a year. Without any problems. Takes about 10 minutes. Good Luck.Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?You will lose a small amount. Gas has to be forced down the fuel line by a pump.Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?Good tip, start the car and find the fuel pump relay fuse under the hood. With the car running, pull it out and the car will shut off. That will semi de-pressurize the lines.

How hard will it be to change the fuel filter on my own? i got the filter from the auto store just need to know how hard it will be to get to the filter itself. I know i had a chevy beretta once that was really simple to get to it took about 10 minutes on the side of the road to get out and change, please answer thank you.,

avafanHow easy is it to change the fuel filter?Your going to have to relive the fuel system pressure first. pull the fuel pump fuse and then crank the engine over, let it run till it dies and then try to start it again just to be sure all fuel pressure is relived.(if you dont do this youll have about 40psi of fuel spraying. this is only an option but it stops fuel spraying and keeps things cleaner.) Im pretty sure your fuel filter is just about on the center of the firewall(slightly towards the passeneger side). Start by removing the fuel line that is connected to the top of the filter. get some towels youll have a little fuel leakage. then remove the fuel line that is connected to the bottom of the filter(or vise versa bottom then top what ever is easiest). then finally remove the two bolts that hold the filter down with the bracket.(or just loose enough to slip the filter out). install in reverse order. replace fuel pump relay/fuse and then turn the car over until it starts. should take you about 15 min if all goes smoothly. good luck!

Our cavalier quit yesterday suddenly yet when going back leter-it started right up. Made it 8 miles and quit again. Sat for 3 minutes and started again. Fuel filter?? If so , how do you change it ? If not-how do we fix it? Can not afford a mechanic!!How do you change a fuel filter/91 chevy cavalier? What signs tell you it is bad? Our quit yet started laterSounds like it could be your fuel pump. It's in the tank. Get a fuel pressure check (possibly autozone can do). It has to be a certain range. Get a manual from library on cavalier repair to find the specs. How do you change a fuel filter/91 chevy cavalier? What signs tell you it is bad? Our quit yet started laterI worck on cars and have come accross this alot.Your fuel filter is located under the hood alittle ways from the throtle body.It will look like a little can made of metal or plastic. It will be held between a spliced hose w/ clamps.Remove it and blow through the side that is marked FLOW --%26gt;.Debrit may come out and if so it will need replacing (a couple of bucks)But to chang your F. pump it may be located inside the gas tank. This is easy also but needs to be done by a mec. cause it involves an electrical harness that needs to be in place. How do you change a fuel filter/91 chevy cavalier? What signs tell you it is bad? Filter only costs about $12 Canadian. If it turns out to be fuel pump try asking at the wreckers for one off a low km car like under 200,000km. Cheaper than new (few hundred dollars). How many km are on your car? That may point to other possible issues. How do you change a fuel filter/91 chevy cavalier? What signs tell you it is bad? Our quit yet started laterit sound like you don't have enough preasure but you can try the filter first but on some cars it takes a cupler to remove it on one end and the other end will be a nut to loosen up you will know when you see it but the factory does like to hide the filter on certain models up around the gas tank but at the back side of the car they are easy to change out though if that doesn't fix it then get a fuel preasure gauge to check the car it should read about 32 to 34 psi.
